Spread the word

Open Bible

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.   -Mark 16:15

Spreading the good word. It’s something we speak of often in church, at home behind closed doors, or even in internet blog posts. But when was the last time you spoke of Jesus to someone you did not know? Someone in line at the grocery store? Someone cleaning your office at work? The barista making your semi-hot half whip mocha choka grande latte supreme? If Christians only talk about Christ to other Christians, are they really spreading the gospel at all?

Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.   -Psalm 96:3

Now I’m not telling you to grab a soapbox and a megaphone and head on down to the local Wal-Mart for a good old fashion revival (though that would be pretty awesome),  and I’m also not saying to hold up the whole line at Starbucks while you recite all of 2 Corinthians from heart. The bible is a big book; we don’t need to cover everything to everyone we encounter, but there are small things we can do every day.  Invite someone to church. Put a short verse in your email signature at work. Even saying a simple, “God bless you” or, “have a blessed day.” could plant the seed of thought in someone’s mind. Are you a more passive person? Leave a Bible on a bus bench. Put a bumper sticker on your car. Share a good christian book with a friend who may not know Jesus. There are going to be times when you will be met with opposition, but you cannot let yourself get discouraged. You have to know in your heart that God is with you, and after all,  I think someone once told me that with him, all things are possible.
